How could we not be strong when life demands so much of us? I don’t think that requirement belongs to any one age. But it is a beautiful poem to reminds us of that, to see the grandmother in our selves.

One thing they had in common, a fact I recall every Remembrance Sunday, is that they both grew up without a father because of World War One. Like everyone else that I grew up with, their influence and stories figure often in my writing and my thoughts.
