Dei (Deo was perhaps a freudian slip????) :-D
We always seem to 'get' each other. Maybe sometime before too long we can meet up at the ole Starbucks, eh?
BTW: I love your kitchen table talk with your mother memory-image...

Oops. I put "Deo" as my name instead of "Dei". Heehee. Also, great post, too. I meant to put that. I've spent much of my life enduring displacement / uprooting, etc., and coffee was the one constant. I "get" what you speak of. When my mother was alive, we'd sit in the kitchen and have coffee - with friends and or family during get togethers, etc. I associate coffee with connecting. Okay, maybe I'm not explaining it right, but I'm sure you get it. I can tell just by this post. I miss your smiling face! I hope we see each other again someday soon! :)

Actually, you're not too far off in your thinking...back in the day when I had my own backyard veggie garden (completely dependent upon my compost bin for its nutritional needs) old, stale coffee beans along with the usual used up grounds & unbleached coffee filters were regular additions to the compost mix!
I never saw the connection before of laying out fabric with the garden fabric process...really love that tangible link to gardening...

Your appraisal of my WIP (as my inspirational nudge) is gratifying indeed!

The quilt is so beautiful, but the title got me thinking it was about using coffee beans as mulch in your garden. Funny because you mention recycling the quilt strips and laying out the fabric, and that plays a part in the garden too.

This is so beautiful, from the quilt itself to its journey into quilthood. I LOVE that splurge-piece, love love it! Fantastic work, and what a memory-piece-peace of those days. ;)
