The road ends, but the journey continues...

find the flaw in the following quote

I am currently enjoying getting ready for our son’s 10 day Thanksgiving Holiday visit starting Monday. Very excited. He’s coming straight from his 2.5 month vacay in the Dominican Republic on his way back home to Colorado, so we’ll have even more catching up to do! I’m also frantically working on a grant that’s due the end of the year to help fund recording expenses of my ‘Swimming with Swans: the music’ …thrilled with the prospect of the assistance, but won’t know if I will be awarded anything until after the New Year. Meanwhile, I will be getting ready for our middle daughter and son-in-law’s visit with us over the Christmas Holidays and hubby’s b-day. They’ll be driving from their new digs in Michigan, so we’re hoping the weather will co-operate and allow us this treat. I love it when things get bunched up because of family gatherings…for me, this is true bliss.

As concerns my blogging frequency: I keep trying to finish several blog posts I’ve got in the queue, but just can’t seem to focus. So, please accept this little quirky, made-up-by-me game “find the flaw in the following quote” as a sort of blogging peace offering and placeholder.

For all my coffee-fiend friends – What is wrong with this? (For answer click here.) Aside from the discrepancy, this was a fun, light bedside table read.

Let me know in the comments below if you knew before clicking or if you had to click! 😉

From: The Cat, The Quilt and The Corpse by Leann Sweeney

I walked inside, but even the wonderful smells – coffee and butter-rich pastries – couldn’t obliterate the guilt I felt about what had happened at the Sanctuary… ‘You’re lookin’ a might ragged,’ the Belle of the Day behind the counter said. Her cornrowed hair sections were tipped with vibrant colored beads that clicked together with every movement. I ordered the biggest latte they offered, and as I handed over the money she added, ‘…my name is Shondra. Now let me fix your coffee. We’re usin’ Sumatra beans today. Sumatra is in Africa. Didn’t know until I started working here how good African beans are. These are nice and smokey.’

My eyes glazed over once I read, “even the wonderful smells – coffee and butter-rich pastries”…my mouth started to water, Laura.
Enjoy your time with the family…there’s nothing better!

Yeah, me too. Good thing smells are calorie and fat-free.
Enjoy your extra helping(s) of Thanksgiving leftovers!

You have so many fun things going on right now. Happy days that the kids are coming back to back. I’m surprised you are getting any other writing done at all if you are working on a grant. Been there, done that. Grants are time consuming. I hope yours gets funded!

      Thanks for stopping by, Becky.
Yep, lots of work on grant-writing. I’ve done some for non-profits and one other for myself…all before 2007, so it’s been awhile. But, I think my organizational skills and concert performing prep skills help me to pace it…thanks for the good wishes.
I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving with all the trimmings…let’s see: everything’s bigger in Texas, right? 😉

Sumatra isn’t in Africa. Pity people who don’t know geography anymore. I blame educational standards. And I don’t know about ‘smokey” tasting beans. But I am not a coffee bean expert.

Hey, bro! Great to have your input here. Even though you’re a java junkie from way before me, I didn’t figure you’d really care about my snobby coffee bean nuances. HA!
And, with your Masters in Education, your points are well taken. I think the word Sumatra sounds like it should be African…geesh.
You get an A+++ because you earned it and because we’re related. 😀

I’m late to the party but as a coffee snob I found the flaw, too. Sumatra is my bean of choice! Have a wonderful holiday season with your family, Laura. Sounds like the next several weeks are going to be special for you.

    • laura bruno lilly

      Thanks, fellow coffee snob!

I also wanted to note that Sumatra is not in Africa. It’s in Indonesia.
Hooray that you’ll have family home soon!!! I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving, Laura! We just received our first snowfall! Whee!

An A+ for you, too! I wonder how that tidbit got past the editor…both author and editor are obviously not coffee connoisseurs.
Speaking of coffee we’ll be sipping it alongside our traditional homemade dark chocolate pie on T-day. For our family, the pumpkin pie is purely an obligatory sliver of a slice eaten in honor of American Heritage (slathered in whipped cream)!
Here’s to both our families, Linda!

    Uh…Sumatra is not in Africa?

    • laura bruno lilly

Yep, you got that right…but do you know where it is? (clicking is okay to do, you got the correct answer)
Ummm, I know, you’re a musician not a geographer! HA!

Uh oh. I think I might have found another “flaw”. I guess we wait until every one has commented before we can discuss. I guess?

    • laura bruno lilly

Actually, you’ve got my curiosity up…how’s about spilling the beans on that extra ‘flaw’? On-line discussions are always odd timing-wise, so please feel free to reveal it whenever you want. 🙂

      • Bob Cloud

After a re-read I thought the words: ‘you’re lookin’ a might ragged ‘ might be written ‘your lookin’ a mite ragged’. Actually spell check doesn’t seem to care.

        • laura bruno lilly

Makes sense that you’d hone in on that, you proud Texan you! I wonder what the true convention is for that phrase…
But MY other spied ‘flaw’ is in the actual description of the taste profile of Sumatran Beans…smokey is more the result of the roast. I’d describe it more like earthy…How cool are we to know such things? 😎

    • laura bruno lilly

Oh, and I think I know what could be considered another ‘flaw’…good eye…

  8. Bob Cloud

I noticed the “flaw” so I didn’t have to click. However, truth be told, I went back online to double check and to confirm that what I thought was off was actually……off. So I guess you could say I only kinda cheated. Yeah I know, no cigar.

You get an A+…you were just checking your work with the ‘answer page’
