How’s this for a cutie patootie picture – friendly faces – to greet you during the reading of my latest post?
Don’t know if anyone else noticed, but the little girl in the video featured in the previous post wore some fun glasses…and don’t ya know, but they reminded me of my ‘new’ glasses.
Say what? Do tell, Laura. (Oh, my goodness, those friendly faces also speak…)
Last October, I went to the eye doctor for a new prescription as it’d been almost 4 years since I’d had my eyes examined. While the frames were still functional, I decided to splurge on a new pair and use the almost 15-year-old ones as spares.
You’re nothing if not frugal, lady.
Too true. But to continue…
Almost immediately my gaze fell upon a purple-y pair that weren’t in-your-face purple, but just the right combo of color, design and shape to give a ‘natural face lift’ to this just turned 65-year-old visage.
Shhhh! Now you gone and done it, everyone knows your age.
“Piffle!” (as Ma used to say)
And: “I am what I am, and that’s all that I am.” (as Popeye says)
Okay, we get it, you feel comfortable in your own skin (no matter its state of sag or wrinkle)…can we just move on?
Sure, but for being ‘friendly faces’ you guys do exude a certain air of edginess. Just sayin’…
Scroll up to early November and that’s when I became obsessed with obtaining my “MERRY COFFEE” special edition free cup from Starbucks (even though I can’t stand their coffee!).

~5:45 AM eastern time
11/07/19
I set myself a goal for this morning and achieved it! Starbucks’ limited offer on a special free Red Cup marking the start of their holiday seasonal menu – The cups go fast & soooo – I decided to get there at store opening – Maybe even be 1st in line!
Well.
There was no line…but I got in at opening & was 1st customer of the day @ 5:03:01 AM! HA!
Walked out with a hot choco, cuppa java & lemon pound cake (for TWL) and My Red Cup!
Purple-y glasses, red cups, lemon yellow pound cake…is there a point to all of this?
You betchya, baby faces!
Look at you rocking those cool glasses and Starbucks cup! I, too, excitedly received one of those red cups with my purchase… but darned if I know where it ended up since. 😛
Aha – someone else “in the know”!
Love the glasses. There are so many fun styles now that I see people of all ages wearing.
Agreed!
I have to say that I prefer Starbucks coffee to Costa Coffee. Which is quite fortuitous as my daughter Courtney works at the main one in Manchester, in between Uni, so I do get the occasional discount . . .
Oh, and cool glasses
As there are few, if any, ‘locally roasted’ places around here, Starbucks is the only outlet with good bean possibilities. Their Gold Coast beans are my favorite to grind for my own brew at home…the problem is it’s rarely in stock in our local store – caters more towards a lighter roast crowd.
I do envy Courtney as I understand Starbucks puts their baristas through thorough training in all things ‘coffee’. Those creds will get her far in the ‘barista’ world – I think it’s a fine ‘trade’ to pursue…Seriously. If nothing else a great ‘fall back’ if other areas of interest don’t pan out.
🙂
You’re all set for the new year, Laura! The glasses look great and I have a jazzy pair with two shades of blue on the frame. Yeah … glad you got the cup but 5 am is SO early. I have to smile that you don’t even like coffee!
Keep that smile…I’m more of a coffee snob – very particular about the quality/roast – and do not care for Starbucks awful offerings with such high prices too! So, smile on for this coffee snobby lady!
FYI: I do love a good cuppa Darjeeling…just sayin’…
Coffee, tea and me, HA!
That WAS fun 🙂 I like your new glasses! I know very well how difficult it can be to find the right frames!
Thank you kindly, Mary!
up and out – and at the door of the coffee shop at 5am! WOW…but at least you got the cup and as long as you regular use it – it will be a fun reminder of the morning in question. And who doesn’t like a nice ramble – my post unfortunately is not random but it’s a bit more negative with positive ending, I hope….
Ahh yes, you get it my dear Catherine…and I do use that cup regularly…
So… curious minds want to know… what is so special about those cups? I’m glad that you achieved your goal, but I don’t get it (but then I don’t often go to any coffee shop, let alone Starbucks, so what do I know?).
I just got new glasses too and they look similar to yours: kind of tortoise shell with bits of purple running through. I’m thinking we are both styling!
Like I said, I don’t like Starbucks…but this was a one-off freebie for a reusable cup that had a design I thought quite clever, “Merry Coffee” – so it was more of a lark as well as a weird self-imposed goal…
Maybe it was more of a local thing?
Anyway, like you said – we’re styling…yeah!
😎
Great post and picture Laura and the glasses are way cool. I need to update mine too, getting harder to drive feeling along the curb. Oh yeah, that face on the right, I think I know that guy. As for Popeye, knew ‘im well. Spent many a night swapping shots at the Neptune bar down in Jax.
Bob
Too funny, Bob…
😎
Each day I shall follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Purple Sage in quest of a Red cup of Wine and Roses
Oh man, Joe, that’s rich!
Thanks for adding wordy joy to my day!
The glasses frame your face well, although I can’t see the colour so well from that distance, but appreciate the close up of them in the tray. I need to go to a coffee shop asap, because I have run out of brew. Happy birthday, belated or otherwise.. 🙂
Thank you so much, Jane! And yes, get thee to a coffee shop asap…
Mmmm just think how great it will be to wake up to that first cuppa!
HA!
Your new glasses look great. I have a purple pair too. Going for another eye test soon, and I am going to try vary focals. Hopefully, they will save me rummaging about with two pairs.
Oh Brigid, I figured you to be a purple-y glasses type, too!
😎
What fun. Thank you for the entertaining read. I learnt a lot about you too!
…as in my age???! HA!
Hope your day is filled with satisfying creations in your (he)art studio.
Yes, that too. Mine is 62! But I also learnt that we share the habits of frugality and the writing of morning pages
Good habits, those!
😉
Those smiley faces made my day so colourful and bright. Like the new look with the glasses, I need new ones too.
Glad to share those smiley faces…
Best wishes for your day!
You look great!!! I’m long overdue for new glasses. Your post inspires me to make an appointment with the eye doctor. Love the friendly faces to greet us as we read.
Those friendly faces were eager for you to notice them…they believe themselves to be much kinder on the eyes than your chicken…
😉
ps-put an appointment with the eye doc on your list of things to do, for sure.
Love this post. Your glasses are wonderful as is your desire to follow the colors that life shows you. I do remember Popeye, btw. I am what I am, too.
Hmmm, I like the sound of ‘follow the colors that life shows you.’ I might adopt that for my New Year’s focus…hmmm.
Thanks, Ally!
Good Morning, Laura! I had no idea that Starbucks had a special offer around the holidays. I am NOT a Starbucks fan at all, but have had it on occasion (when there’s no other choice, like in the hospital). I sure do like the idea of a reusable cup, though. I had some purple glasses for a bit. They were very similar to yours where they were not an obvious purple but so subtle. Basically, if you saw them in the right light. Thanks for sharing your very nice photo from Christmas Day! ~smile~ Roseanne
“…when there is no other choice, like in the hospital…”
Agreed. Spoken like a true coffee snob sister!
😎
Hope your morning cuppa java brew is exceptional this day!
