The road ends, but the journey continues...

MondayMonday Music: #1 Remembering my first…

purchased downloads from Amazon digital music a long, long time ago.

I ‘own’ these three pieces, but can’t offer them in total to you the listener as a share on my blog…interesting. This embed of Amazon’s ‘share’ include only excerpts. Click here for my ‘First Purchased Download’ List but then – you have to sign in/up to listen.

However, as another vehicle for sharing, I offer up the three pieces in their respective youtube embeds for your enjoyment!

All that to say I do miss ‘relevant’ music radio – underground FM anyone? (KBCO FM history, KLZ FM history)

note: I suppose you, my regular followers, noticed I’m not exactly rushing to finish up my ‘part 3’ of the Catching Up blog postings…it’ll come, just not now! 🙂 Please forgive my indolence in this matter! Blame it on the Unending Summer Heat Wave of 2022.
Stay safe & cool, all.

We have a few frustrations with getting music here, too. Still have our CDs though!

I love reading about music choices. I listen to a little light classical most mornings to start my day. Always had LP’s and then cassettes and now google play. I’m quite out of touch with the modern musicians.

It’s nice to start the day with music in the house!

    Yeah, Amazon…enough said!

But many thanks for sharing such beautiful music in remembrance of your firsts. I stayed for a while on your blog and listened again and again. Super cool stuff. And oh, my first music (LP) purchase for my 16th birthday was Billie Jean by Michael Jackson 😀 <3

As for Part 3, no pressure. I'm also embarrassingly slow in reading the blogs, right now. I blame all the summer activities going on. Stay cool and safe!

I’ll really date myself here, but I remember hearing Michael Jackson as part of the Jackson 5 in the 70s. My baby bro was a big fan of theirs. His later work, like Billie Jean and anything on Thriller was good stuff!
Let’s hear it for all those summer activities! You stay cool, too!

Good music! my first purchased music is in the form of an LP. ?

    • laura bruno lilly

Mine too…with 2 45s shortly thereafter (see reply to Andy’s comment). It took me longer to buy music downloads and these three were early enough in the process that I can only access them via their special player…or on-line when signed in to Amazon. That’s what gets me – I bought these but don’t really ‘own’ these. (see reply to Pete’s comment) HA! Oh well
      Do you remember which lp?

      • Jennie

I remember my first lp like it was yesterday- Meet the Beatles. Yes, I still have the album, and play it at school. Children love it! I have my 45’s, too. My favorite is Shout, by the Isley Brothers, but you have to flip the 45 to the other side to hear the whole song.

        • laura bruno lilly

See, just your few years being older got you the real deal album…you were in the know. I was just a newbie…hence the “Beatle Mania” mistake!
          😎

            I know what you mean!

Made me think of my first ever purchases before the digital age:

Vinyl: Neil Diamond. I was a kid in the 70’s when we got our first timetable and so my Mum and I nipped into town to buy something. At that point I didn’t have a clue about music, and when my Mum picked up an album of his and said “Your Dad likes him” I said “I do too” and got that! Having recently failed to locate that compilation on CD (it’s still on ebay in the original format) I recreated it on a Spotify playlist.

Cassette: In the 80’s, Can’t Slow Down by Lionel Ritchie. I know I used to like it but I don’t listen to him now.

CD: I resisted buying a CD player. I remember thinking that I’ have albums on cassette and vinyl I’m not getting them on CD too’. I wanted my collection to be uniform. But then:You know I am a long time Beatle and Lennon fan. Around that time, before Amazon and online shopping, you couldn’t really get hold of any of his solo albums apart from Imagine. Then I saw an advert for the release of a four-CD collection of his solo material and that was that! I went out and bought a CD player straight away! But in waiting for that collection I got an album to try it our: Brothers In Arms. I ended up with that album on vinyl, cassette and CD!!

This is rich, Andy! Got me to remembering my first 45s…even though the album was technically first – “Beatle Mania! in the U.S.A” by The Liverpools…in the $1 bin by the 69cent 45s…I thought it was the real Fab Four…and got a deal – nope! That was late 1964. The 2 45s were in summer of 1965: The Stones’ “Satisfaction” and The Dave Clark 5 – “Catch us if you can”. All mono of course!
      😎
      I think I was around 10…yikes!

      • Andy

        All great songs!
Of course I meant to type ‘turntable’ instead of ‘timetable’ before predictive interfered without my noticing. But in a list of firsts timetable is quite apt too!

        • laura bruno lilly

I knew it was a spell check thing – grr. But it did serve double duty like you said. Did you know about that fake beatlesgroup, “The Liverpools?”

I guess I’m not surprised that Amazon doesn’t allow you to share the music since it doesn’t belong to them. If there’s some way to get money of us, they’ll figure out a way. YouTube is developing their way too. You have to pay for content without ads. I just tolerate the interruptions, but it is a bit irritating that the ads will run in the middle of songs. I’m sure they could find a way to do that in between songs, but it’s another vehicle for collecting revenue.

I’m quite familiar with all three of the songs as it fits my tastes. I’m more of a fan of the first two. Hopefully, the extreme heat will go away soon. My best to you and yours, Laura.

    • laura bruno lilly

The music ‘business’ has always been complicated – and the radio days were no exception (payola anyone?)
However, at least when you buy records/tapes/cds they are yours in hand…these 3 first downloads have never really been ‘mine’ even though I purchased them back then. Things are different now with direct downloads from places like Bandcamp, but like you say, Amazon plays by its own rules…
Stay cool as best you can, Pete!

It’s always mild year-round where we live, but I’ll be traveling to the heat next week. The wildfire season is upon us.

Oh, how interesting. I think my only Amazon downloads were from a purchase I made a couple of years ago of a Graham Nash album. The downloads were included with the purchase of his album. I don’t think they ever integrated into my iTunes library — no surprise there! 🙂 Dave Matthews is such a wonderful songwriter and singer. I love “The Space Between” so much.

    • laura bruno lilly

A friend’s husband was close friends with the guitar player in the Dave Mathews Band, so we kind of kept up with their music over the years – interesting evolution. Yes, “The Space Between” is a keeper!

  8. And I hit send before completing my thoughts, ha!
Oh yes KBCO! Listen to it all the time living in Colorado!

    • laura bruno lilly

Yep – missing home for sure!

  9. Wow – that is some fancy blogging with embedding those music samples like that! Very good taste in music – I already own and love the first two songs and it was fun to discover the third!

    • laura bruno lilly

I must say, you also have good taste in music!
      😎

  10. L. Marie

Wow. I can’t remember my first purchases either. But how fun that you do, Laura. I’m always interested in the music a musician/composter recommends. It must be good if you recommend it!

    • laura bruno lilly

Didn’t we just cover our bases on recs from each other!? HA! I hope you enjoy them – but if not, we’re good, eh? Of course we are – we’re both honorary Mancs (nice to have fun in the comments, isn’t it?) hugs
      😎

  11. piecefulwendy

I don’t know if I can remember my first purchases, it’s been so long. This is fun to see!

    • laura bruno lilly

Thanks for the thumbs up, Wendy. I was debating whether or not to actually pub this. I was going through old files and came across these – hence the post. Enjoy the music!
