The road ends, but the journey continues...

Please Un-Spam Me

A quick note here:

Lately my comments on other people’s blogs – even those I’ve followed for years – have not been appearing on their comment page. I’ve attempted to correct that by notifying them individually either using their contact-page-form or by piggy-backing on other comments made on the same article. This has gotten way too complicated so I’m sending out this blog post in the hopes that it will help rectify the situation.

If you are a blogger I follow and/or someone I comment on your posts from time to time, please check your spam folder and Un-Spam Me!

What a pain, right? But thank you in advance…

Meanwhile, I’ve also notified AKISMET* about the problem. Realistically, though, who knows how long it will take for my humble request to be noticed in the reality that is the internet – a place filled with millions of spammers and legitimate commenters all mixed together in the blogosphere and beyond.

Have you ever had this problem, too? Do you have any pointers on how to rectify the problem?

If so, please comment below and if you can’t ‘get through’ then try my contact page form…maybe it’s happening on my site as well. It does need a huge overhaul…sigh.

*While doing a google search I came across this very helpful article and followed the advice given once accessing the AKISMET contact page .

When I checked my Readers page, I had no sign of askimet, or even a list of past SPAM notices, as I used to have. I am getting your messages. thanks for the “heads up.”

Thanks Jane for checking…I do enjoy your posts and was concerned about the comment problems for sure!

Hi Laura! I’m so glad you mentioned it. I hope un-spamming you does the trick although I’ll have to keep checking now and then to make sure. How very annoying. ~smile~ Roseanne

It seems to have made a difference in those blogger-sites such as yours who have unspammed me. But what a pain for you and them and then me because how can anyone possibly cover all the comments left on blogs??
It also seems to be a fairly common occurrance in the WP community.
      🙁
Hope you have a great first-day-of-summer-weekend in your part of the country.

    Hi Laura,
I receive your posts and comments ok, but I do have a problem with many comments going to my pending file for approval. I have tried to correct but cannot do so. I also now receive emails from some people when they have posted on here. I received an email from your post. WordPress need to do some tweaking.
I hope we can all get this sorted. Nanette

    • laura bruno lilly

      Thanks for the info, Nanette.
So sorry about the ‘other’ problems you’re encountering…

Just unspammed two of your comments. I have had this problem many times.
    Various things cause it, such as;
Too many comments with the same words.
Sending more than one link in a comment.
Using words ‘restricted’ by the other blogger. (Like ‘sex’. I could type in the English county, Sussex, and it gets flagged as containing ‘sex’)
    Too many ‘pingbacks’.
Bloggers leaving your comment unanswered, or mistakenly putting it in ‘Trash’.
Mostly, I think it is basically WordPress, and their famous glitches. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

    • laura bruno lilly

Pete: thanks for the unspamming! Yes, WP is notorious for glitches that only get worse for lack of attention.
      -sigh-
Enjoy your first day of summer.

OK, done and done. I think. I’ve had similar problems with wordpress and when I’ve contacted them looking for some assistance they never reply.

    • laura bruno lilly

Yay – we’re clear – nice to know one blogging site hasn’t been affected. And yes, we have email to rely on, too. Not true with most of my blogger friends, so this is just a perk!

I think Janis may be onto why this happens. I’ve had it happen to me, but then it rectifies itself about as mysteriously as it starts. No matter what techies try to tell you, everything associated with computers and the internet is random to some degree. Sorry this is happening to you, though.

    • laura bruno lilly

You’re right on the randomness aspect, but hard to rely on that same randomness correct it….ya know?
So glad you got me back running on your comments on your blog. A fine example of the long/hard/complicated way working!
      😉

I checked and there was nothing in my spam box

    • laura bruno lilly

I’d been holding off on commenting on some blogs, will resume the dialogue with you soon!
      Thanks for the check!

  8. Jill Weatherholt

This seems to be happening to a lot of people…not sure why. I hope you get it resolved soon.

    • laura bruno lilly

Can you believe it? I got a response from Akismet a few minutes ago for clarification on my part!
Seems like it might get resolved sooner than next year! HA!

  9. Lisa

I’ve been experiencing this too….bloggers I know have been appearing in my spam folder. Others hav3 had issues as well. So far you haven’t shown up in mine!

    • laura bruno lilly

Great to know…I’d been hesitant to comment so will assume the best on your site!!!!
      (for now)

      • laura bruno lilly

Just left you a comment on your latest post and it didn’t go through…FYI. So I guess I need you to un-spam me please?

  10. L. Marie

Your comments usually appear on my blog. (I checked it to make sure.) I’m sorry it’s been happening to you. You’re not alone. A number of people have said the same thing about WordPress.

    • laura bruno lilly

      Thanks so much L.Marie…
WP is getting a bit gnarly especially with my need to update…but I’m having a hard time finding anything that can handle my backups in order to proceed with the upgrades etc…sigh.
      Vicious circle, eh?
      Have a great weekend!

  11. Janis

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago. I don’t remember how it got fixed (sorry) but I worked with AKISMET also. I’m pretty sure my problem started when I was using an unsecured WiFi system to read and comment on blogs I follow while staying at a hotel. The good news is that it did get fixed. Good luck!

    • laura bruno lilly

Thanks for the encouraging words, Janis! We’ll see and I’d love to see a new post from you – hint, hint.
      😉
