Anyone who has had any on-line presence for any length of time – blogging or otherwise – knows the importance of periodically updating one’s static pages. It’s amazingly easy to just let content lie as is and hope it’s adequate. I admit to holding onto that faint hope.
However, the New Year brought forth a personal campaign to make a few changes on my wordpress website/blog.
Here they are – not immediately noticeable, but notable. (I like the sound of that last phrase – kind of catchy, eh?)
The beginning of this year, I began revising my soon-to-be four year old wordpress website pages. I figured it was time for a refresh.
Also, I began working on content for a separate music-only website – to be launched hopefully before the end of this summer.
In the process, I found both endeavors required more thought and effort than I had time to give. So, I have been dabbling – doing bits here and there whenever snippets of time become available.
First and foremost, I made subtle changes to the Welcome Home page. My site’s landing page.
This is important because it fine-tuned the purpose of this site for those discovering it for the first time. Once my music-only website is launched, it will include a link to that site in an effort to keep both sites related yet distinct in focus.
Next, in an effort to streamline navigation efficiency, I took down that old Links page. (FYI: it’s a dinosaur page, guys!)
I then transferred any relevant info and refashioned it into a newly formed Resources page, nestling it neatly underneath the Purple Tulip Music page.
Last but not least, I just now updated my About page.
Next in line for reconstruction is cleaning up the Desert Mountain Writing page, and maybe tweaking the Contact page to include contact options outside the realm of just the wordpress contact page form.
Yes, I considered changing out my ‘gravatar’ and I wanted to explore changing wp themes. But: my initial set-up involving a child theme complicates ease of switching themes directly – and – there is something to be said for continuity in one’s internet on-line presence…
I just did update my About page. It’s more important than I would have thought in the past. Great post, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You’re welcome and thanks for stopping by.
I have been meaning to update my About page for two years… I’m impressed that you are actually making changes (not just thinking about it like me). Good for you for moving forward.
Actually, it’s reassuring for me to hear of others having the same issues of website/blog maintenance nagging at them (you), too! 😀
Checked out your new ‘About’ page. I also love to seek out places of funky vibes and laughter 🙂
A change is always good. Stops us stagnating.
Maybe someday we can meet up at our favorite haunts! Except not that McDonald’s you wrote about in Manchester…cool layout, but don’t like the menu much!!!! 😀
That would be cool. And as a vegetarian I guess we’re not too far apart in our opinions on the menu!
Agreed!
Hope the novel is coming along regardless of where you get to hang out and write.
Looks like you have a new font on your banner also.
I know I need to make changes too. I still have some old stuff from when I first started the blog.
How exciting that you’ll begin a new music only site!
The music-only site is exciting! But still enough away from completion that I’m more frustrated than not. HA! 😀
Thanks for noticing the changes.
Kudos to you, Laura, for undergoing these changes in your web presence! I certainly need to do the same but am pushing it in front of me all the time 😉 I also think that some continuity is always a good thing and I like your gravatar, so don´t change it 🙂
HA! I notice that you changed your gravatar! The squirrel is cute, but you’re cuter!
Thanks for the vote to keep mine, I’ve been debating it. But, I think even as I change (get older), the photo still carries the symbolism of who/what I am.
